In a world of magic and mystery, terrible danger lurks in the shadows. In this desolate relm there is only one with the power to drive back the darkness. He stands valiantly, taking in this new world for the first time. His pure, white scarf secured safely around his round nubblets (paws). As he stands in a feild of flora, he ponders many weighty questions with delibrate, and thoughtful examimation. These quandaries consist of; "If cupcakes are like cakes but in cups, than why can't I drink them?", "If I eat air do I start floating?", and, "Where am I?"
This is the tale of Cuddlyface
Cuddlyface's story is one that began with a story about my [Jason's] sister and I. Last spring me and my sister where bored. and many springs ago, we were also bored. In both these cases we did what many people do when relity is too mundane and complicated for their liking, we turned to are imaginations. In both cases, our imaginations led us to world of Cuddlyface. On a particular day durring one of the later years of my sister and I's elementary schooling, we were at home, eger for something to grab our attentions. That night, our dad had an idea. For a whlie now he had liked to imagine that one of our monkey stuffed animals as being very British. I, for one, hated the monkey and would often have my doggie stuffed animas aid me in beating said monkey. Seeing the grand, and intrinsic comedic value of play time, Dad desided to put my dogs and the Monkey (named Sir Monkey Toes) in front of a camera. After that day SMT (Sir Monkey Toes) took off, and every week there was another episode of SMT, and then we would find out where our shared story would go next. The list of characters expaned with villans, cats, commotions and even some cosmic gods. By the end of it all all the stuffed animals in the rooms of me and my sister were given their own distinct personalities. With each one coming together to form this vast world of my sister and I's own imaginations, with Dad acting as the star and guiding hand for all the videos we got to film.
This went on for what to us seemed like forever, but was in truth a finite stretch of time. The world of Sir Monkey Toes fizzled out near the start of middle school. This was mostly due to ageing as our minds were taken elsewhere. But then, last spring, my sister and I again were very bored, and so decided to turn back to the best cure we new. SMT
At the start of last spring (spring 2024) we deiced that we were going to add to the world of SMT once again. We decided to make a game based to the world of SMT. Spring break gave as nothing better to do, and we thought it would be fun. Creating the game has been a blast so far, and my sister and I have loved reconnecting with this world from our past. The game centers around Cudddlyface, a character thats impact on my sister and I would derail the whole dev log in its own right, as he makes his way through a strage new world. The game is being made in RPG maker MZ. The game devlopment is spilt up in to four main areas, art, maps, enimies, and story. My sister is in charge of making awesome art for the game, while I [Jason] do the majority of the maps (i.e the look and shape of each area you enter in the game). Both of us brainstorm all the custom enemies and the game's story. However, the game's creation happens only in short bursts when my sister and I have the time and patience to collaborate on the game together. But I really cannot wait to see were it goes.
All of the art for the game - except for tilesets - was done by me [Rebecca]. Faces and enemy images were created using only the app Procreate on my Ipad, and my finger. In-game character sprites where created by me [still Rebecca] and the website Pixilart. Here is a time lapse of my process for creating the title screen...

...As you can see I go through a hell of a creative process, but I quite enjoy experimenting with different colors, textures, ect. It is pretty much the best part of designing art for the game.

When it came to the characters in the world of SMT, Cuddlyface truly was the favorite son. With me and my sister choosing to bless our round boy with all the deep lore a little pup could need.
Cuddlyface in our stories was a child, and that is what made him so appealing to us. There was something so comforting to us that no matter what,
when we found Cuddlyface he would always be there to lift us up. Cudddlyface has stolen the title of protagonist in the our game. Where he will encounter many foes and allies in his noble quest to eat a cupcake and possibly
save the world too, and maybe even go home (pretty sure he forgot about home). But Cudddlyface will do all this and more with a smile :D!!!
... and he also has the brain power to completely understand only about a of thrid of what's going on. YAY!!!!!!
SMT was the origanl star of the of the CMU (Cudddlyface Multimeadia Universe) with the escipades of the english primate being
the basis for our game. The current portrayal of SMT in our game can traced back to my father, it being his idea to protray a random monkey
stuffed animals (That I raided from my abuelo's office) as a prim and proper, snooty, high soicity englishman. SMT's high strung personality
played off many of the series's characters well, with the general struture of each instalment being SMT trying friutlessly to quell the absurdity
of what ever shenanigans the other cast members had gotten him in to. This structure translates to the game beautifully, with SMT's better nature leading
him to be stuck baysitting Cuddlyface over the course of the adventure, and with SMT being the guiding force of the adventure, always trying to remain foused on
the task of getting Cuddlyface home while simultaneously trying to shape the chaos he has to deal with into something his overly punctuated brain
can comprehend.
Some of STM's most noteworthy achievements include:
B&L are two of the most utterly timeless CMU charicters. They truely are the original rascals. With their mischievous nature and inventive minds being the prefect combo of traits to disrupt, rearange, and/or completely upheave SMT's way of life. This can be seen in B&L's conduct towards the main monkey man being very rash and blunt and them focefully inserting themselves into the party just for the heck of it. With the brotherly duo looking for every chance to rile up the monkey man and then seizeing it like the quatum reactor their papa got them on their 10th birthday. But for a the bad these pups bring, their inventive side does come in handy throughout the story, when at the end of world 2 they use the *spoiler* to chase after *spoiler* saving the day.
Me [Rebecca] and Jason are working on the rest of world 2, and two more worlds to complete the story. We're talking new characters, locations, dialogue, and art. Hopefully our hyperfixation returns soon, so that we can finish the game. If you're still reading this, thanks for your dedication, now go play (or re-play) the game!
